We're working hard on getting our site up, so far we've picked the platform and have started setting up different forums, but we still need your help!

What would you put on Matts List?

  1. this is an amaaaazing idea! Matt's list would be helpful for a lot of things. I would use it to find roommates/ housing for the summer either here or in manhattan, boston etc. It would be really cool (and less expensive) to also use it for like text book exchange/ bargain selling. also for furniture for senior housing and such.

  5. wait, I thought this sounded more political-oriented. Well actually what I mean is I thought it was going to deal more with school, social, political issues that affected students at the college than with...selling furniture. And don't get me wrong, I do think increased communication will help students (e.g. with course selection, it would be really helpful), I guess I'm not sure what you're aiming for.

    What are you aiming for?

  6. Hey Anonymous,

Thanks for the post. I'm trying to think through ways to make this a multi-solution site. Yes it will handle some of the more logistical things (like buying and selling furniture), but it will also deal with citizenship and discourse, and I hope it will open new vistas for discussion and action. So yes, I want my list to be politically and socially oriented.

I've got some ideas of my own but I'd love you hear yours. Can you expand a bit on how my list might help your efforts? You sound passionate and informed -and I'm not even a website yet- so give me some ideas!

    I love your spark!

  7. This may sound stupid... but what about a missed- connections type thing?

  9. Anons 6:36 and 8:05,

    I'll see what I can do : )

In the mean time, go find your most recent missed connection and wish them a happy belated valentine's day. They'll think your crazy, but who cares? Make your own fun.

Or... just date me on my new site coming in a week!

    Love and Love,
    Matt

  10. I think the idea of student discourse sounds great, but can you please try and keep it from becoming a source of petty arguing, where students just make intolerant, and arrogant remarks? Considering that Vassar likes to pride itself on being an "accepting community," students are incredibly good at being non-accepting.

I'm just thinking about in the past when MadsVassar used to have anonymous comments and students seemed to really abuse the privilege...

But then again, maybe that's all part of the game.

  11. Anon 6:43,
Your point is well taken, thanks for the feedback. We all remember the dark days of anon postings on Vassar sites. I think you'll be happy with the visibility on Matts List, I overheard my builders talking about something of a log in--oh no i've said too much!

Must go get strong and develop,
    Matt

*my site is coming to your computer screen in a week!

  12. maybe this is just the nerd in me, but it'd be cool if seniors could post what they did for their senior projects/theses. there's not really a campus wide venue for them to share with everyone what they've been working on for the past year, and i know at least i would be interested. also like, jya program reviews would be cool. kind of like a travel/study tips forum.
